I saw “Notes on a Scandal”over the weekend, and all I can say is Judi Dench kicks ass! She is incredible as a lonely, battle-ax who has a dark obsession with another teacher, played by Cate Blanchett. As always, Blanchett is beautiful and gives a fantastic performance as the unwitting object of affection (there’s also an affair with a student but you’ll have to watch the movie for all the juicy bits- and there are many).
While I’m totally engrossed in the story, a wardrobe item catches my eye. Cate Blanchett wears what looks like an embroidered peasant top that I love, love love.

Hot for teacher? I’m hot on the trail for this top! |
I’ve scoured the internet for similar items. Here’s one by Matthew Williamson.

You can get a closer look on net-a-porter. |
I like the mosaic look to the top and even though it’s not quite like the one from the movie, it’s still lovely. But at $665, it’s definitely not in my price range.

You can find this at Tory Burch online. |
Here’s an embroidered top by Tory Burch. I might even like the orange version better because the white top looks a little too stark compared to the bright embroidery. Maybe it’s my monitor. But then again, I’ve never looked great in orange. While it’s not as pricey as the Matthew Williamson version, at $250 it’s also out of my price range.
I did find authentic Mexican peasant blouses for under well under 50 dollars. While I won’t know the quality of what I’d get, it might be worth taking a chance. There are also similar items on eBay, but again I’m not quite sure what I’m going to get.
I must have this shirt! Okay, who’s obsessed now?

Okay people, I’m not endorsing dressing like Scissor Sisters, unless you’re in the performance arts of some kind. But hey, if that’s what moves you… Well, I do think Ana Matronic is quite glamorous. Although in this picture she looks a little like a drag queen. It’s a good thing I love drag queens, and queens in general. My husband calls me Queen Jane and I’m not about to discourage that sort of talk. Thanks Bob Dylan.

Shake what your mama gave you with Scissor Sisters |
I’m listening to their new album Ta-Dah right now and loving every track. They are often compared to Elton John- the “Rocket Man” Elton, I assume, not the Can You Feel the Love Tonight” Elton. I don’t like that Elton. But I think the music is about more than just a nod to the 70’s or show tunes. The lyrics are smart and the songs get your booty shaking. So there! Now, where’s my feather boa and tambourine?
A View from the Front Row
September 11 | Celebrity Stylin’ & Profilin’
Okay, here’s the deal. We’ve barely wrapped our minds around this season’s clothes when already we’re bombarded by what we should be wearing next season. I for one can’t keep up. Of course I’m interested in getting the first look at what designers are sending down the runway, but I’m not going to analyze or idealize or proselytize just yet. I’m going to take my time making judgments and pronouncements about the latest, latest trends.

Instead, I want the juice. What’s going on inside the tents and in the front rows? Which scary skinny celebrity showed up to which show? Whose show started with fisticuffs? In a brilliant move, the girls of Go Fug Yourself are covering Fashion Week for New York Magazine. Be prepared for some viciously smart snark.
Speaking of Fashion Week coverage, much love to the lovelies at Coutorture for giving bloggers access to photos, videos and interviews we would never get otherwise. Thank you!
