Coat of Charms
September 18 | Searching For…
It’s a wardrobe necessity that always causes a little bit of anxiety for me, and I’m not talking about shopping for jeans. For some reason finding the right coat is a challenge. It has to be versatile, well-made and of course, keep me warm. What’s tough is finding a classic style that isn’t too staid. On top of all this, it can’t cost me a mortgage payment or two. Where does a girl find such a coat? It takes some investigative skills and a lot of patience. Here are a few stylish choices:

Ann Taylor Loft navy military style coat $179 |
I’ve noticed that Ann Taylor Loft isn’t just cranking out office basics. I don’t work in an office so it’s not the first place that comes to mind for fashionable clothes, but they’re offering more contemporary styles. Besides, the price on the coat is a serious deal.

DKNY wool trench coat $248 |
If grey is the new black, then you can’t go wrong this DKNY wool trench. While it isn’t off the charts on the fun scale, it’s classic without being boring.

DVF printed raincoat $495 |
I like this Diane von Furstenberg raincoat because it beats stepping out in the rain in my hooded rain jacket, especially on a night out. Plus it’s pretty and isn’t that what it’s all about sometimes?

Mackage leather trim coat $580 |
Mackage makes the most inventive outerwear around. There are several coats and jackets from the fall line that I covet, especially the ones with a retro vibe. Pay attention to this line.

Vena Cava wool coat $875 |
Here’s another fresh line that’s getting plenty of attention lately. I love the simple black wool coat with the oversized snaps by Vena Cava. It’s body conscious and elegant which is a nice alternative to bulky and serviceable. It’s also the most expensive coat on the list so it’s definitely an investment, but it’s a look that will never go out of style.
